July 2023 AIU Newsletter
We are excited to announce that the LORD has made possible the start of the 2023 Voices of Zambia (VOZ) tour! The VOZ team successfully arrived in the United States and has begun performing in several churches.
A team of gifted singers, the VOV are mostly AIU graduates who lead worship in a uniquely African style. Over the next several months, until November 22, they are scheduled to visit churches across the USA singing songs of praise, sharing personal testimonies, and seeking every opportunity to share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The four members of this year’s team are David Chibiya and his dear wife Idah, Simon Simuyemba, and Allosius Mapulanga. The purpose of this tour is to raise awareness for Gospelink and AIU and to secure sponsorships for the incoming freshmen of 2024. As most of AIU’s current sponsors are individuals and families, this tour will provide church groups and entire congregations an opportunity to sponsor our students. Please pray that God would work in mighty and incredible ways for His glory through the VOZ, and in so doing inspire new sponsors to join us as partners in this ministry.
Please pray over the logistical details of this tour. Everything from meals to accommodations and transportation depends on people across the USA sacrificing their time and resources. We are grateful to all who are involved in making the VOZ Tour a success!

God’s faithfulness in the life and mission of AIU was on full display with the recent graduation of our first-ever Master’s class! On July 9, 2023, six men marched into the graduation square to receive their master’s degrees in Biblical Studies. In addition to the high demands of this rigorous academic program, these men faced considerable obstacles along the way, including the COVID-19 crisis, to arrive at this great milestone. As an added benefit to AIU, these new Master’s graduates are qualified to administer courses to our undergraduate students per the regulations set by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) of Zambia. As they go on to advance God’s Kingdom in various capacities, we are grateful for those who choose to remain at AIU as professors.
Attending the graduation ceremony was the Chancellor of AIU, Dr. Cliff Morris, and Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Jim Gerhart, along with the University Council Chairman, and his Vice, among other representatives of the university and community. Our guest speaker, Pastor Richard Lauger, encouraged and challenged the graduates. On this momentous occasion, we have so much to be thankful for. The graduates and their families are especially grateful for their life-changing journey through AIU, a ministry through which God is equipping Africa’s next generation of Spiritual leaders.
Through their academic journeys, these men were faithfully backed by the resources and prayer support of many people. We are thankful to everyone who made this day possible. Pray with us for God’s continued provision for AIU and its students as they impact this continent for His glory!
As our campus population rapidly grows, so too has our water consumption. AIU has subsisted for many years on limited water sources for both domestic use and for our large campus garden. There have been occasions when we even had to go completely without water for hours at a time. One of our longstanding prayer requests has been to increase our access to water. God recently answered this prayer by providing us with a new 110-meter deep water borehole. This comes at a critical time just before the onset of the dry season when water access in Zambia is most difficult.
We are so thankful to God and to our sponsors who have made this borehole project possible. Final touches include setting up the water storage tanks as reservoirs for the garden, immersing the electric water pump, and connecting to a power supply for the borehole to be fully operational. As this borehole will be used specifically for our garden, we anticipate greater food crop yields from the increased water capacity.
For the AIU faculty and campus community, the new borehole offers relief for domestic water needs, especially in the staff houses and student bathhouses where we have had to ration water in times of high demand.
“I am thankful for this timely development as it will enable the garden department to maximize production because we will now have enough water supply for the crops while the water challenges we have been facing on campus.”- Webster Siansimbi, AIU’s Garden Department Supervisor
We are thankful to all who sponsored this project. Continue praying with us as we do the final work on the water borehole. Pray also for all students and staff to be good stewards of this precious gift.
Since it became fully operational in January 2013, the Chifundo Clinic continues to be a huge blessing. Built in response to a pressing need for medical services, the clinic serves the AIU staff and students as well as the surrounding off-campus communities. Prior to this, anyone on or off campus had to travel a minimum of two hours to receive medical attention, especially burdensome for expectant mothers. Today, the Chifundo Clinic is known as one of the leading health facilities in the Rufunsa District, where we are located.
On average, the Chifundo Clinic now treats over 50 people daily, tending to both physical and spiritual needs. We are thankful for God’s providence and the donors who gave so generously to make this clinic a blessing to so many today.
“It used to be a struggle to find any medical services before Chifundo Clinic was built. That is now a story of the past and I am so thankful for the quality medical services that I have received here. If any of my family members were to fall sick at night, we have a place to go for medical help. It is my prayer that God will bless all those who work at the Chifundo Clinic.” – Gertrude Mwachipata, beneficiary of Chifundo Clinic medical services
In conjunction with the outreach department at AIU, the Chifundo Clinic conducts a special outreach program to connect as many people as possible with the gospel and medical services and health education right at their doorsteps. Through this medical outreach strategy, the Chifundo Clinic has touched the lives of thousands, many of whom have professed their faith in Christ after hearing the gospel message preached.
“I have witnessed God work through the Chifundo Clinic to reach multitudes of people. The clinic staff are excited about serving at Chifundo Clinic and they are so thankful for the great opportunity to serve the Lord through the medical services they provide.” – Harrison Muleya, Chifundo Clinic Manager
The staff, AIU community, and people from the surrounding villages are so thankful for the Chifundo Clinic. We are grateful to all who continue to help sustain the clinic through Gospelink and also to the government of Zambia. To God be the glory! Continue praying for God’s provision of the Chifundo Clinic and for its team who are dedicated to quality medical care and the preaching of the gospel.

We have more good news! A few years ago, to address a great need for health services and education for adolescents in our surrounding communities, the Chifundo Clinic began a program aimed at youths aged twelve to twenty-four. In addition to health-related matters, the program would also help organize local youths and provide a platform for them to share productive ideas that could help combat forms of idleness in their lives. Most importantly, as a ministry outreach, the program would prioritize sharing the gospel with as many young people as possible.
When first initiated, response to this program was underwhelming, likely due to its overlap with the COVID-19 pandemic. We saw a complete reversal by the first quarter of 2023, and have since been greatly encouraged to see a consistent, and at times overwhelming, turnout. There have been days when we have drawn an attendance of nearly 140 adolescents to an event! To increase participation, we plan to incorporate games such as soccer, netball, volleyball, and certain indoor sports.
So far, this program has been received very positively by the staff of Chifundo Clinic and AIU, parents of participating youths, and the youths themselves. For the clinic staff, this provides an opportunity to share information about adolescent health and the gospel. As statistics of unwanted teen pregnancies in our district have been on the rise, parents are pleased with the biblically-based health council provided by the Chifundo Clinic staff.
The program is managed by a qualified Chifundo Clinic health worker known as a Peer Educator. Participating youths meet with their Peer Educator at the clinic every Friday afternoon. We are grateful for the support of the government of the Republic of Zambia in the training of Peer Educators serving at various health facilities, including at Chifundo Clinic.
Our desire is for the young people of AIU and the surrounding communities to be knowledgeable about their physical and spiritual health. Pray with us for the continued success of this program. Also, pray with us for more partners to join us in support of this project. We are so thankful to everyone who has contributed to this program, and we praise the Lord for the positive impact it is having in the lives of young people at AIU and in the surrounding communities.
Kennedy Tembo is a 2020 graduate of AIU. In April of that year, following his graduation, Kennedy joined our staff as a receptionist and graduate assistant, serving in this capacity until July 2022. Kennedy went on to serve as the Assistant to the Registrar and Work Scholarship Manager while continuing to also serve as a graduate assistant. Kennedy is also part of the Master’s class on Distance Learning
As assistant registrar and as a graduate assistant, his daily routines include managing the student portals on school dynamics. Kennedy also co-teaches and assists in grading papers and exams. As a work scholarship manager, he is responsible for assigning students to their work scholarship departments at AIU while making sure the students are current on their work scholarship hours.
Being at AIU and serving in this capacity is a huge blessing to Kennedy. He says his job has taught him to have patience, endurance, and professionalism.
“I love the work that I do here at AIU because it glorifies God and it also helps me grow as an individual. While serving the student body as a work-scholarship manager, I am growing in my leadership skills.”- Kennedy Tembo
Kennedy’s desire is to expand in his capacity as a leader. He asks that we pray God would help him remain faithful and give him strength to fulfill every responsibility given to him. Pray for God’s continued provision in his life and also that unsaved family members of his would come to faith in Christ.
Bisalom is a 2023 Junior at AIU. He comes from Petauke, a town in eastern Zambia. He is the eighth of ten children with six brothers and three sisters. Bisalom recalls many hardships growing up, including almost losing his mother at a young age. He is thankful to God for sustaining him and his siblings through their upbringing.
Bisalom is thankful for a God-fearing father in his life who encouraged him in the fear of the Lord. His father always took him to Church and to Bible studies. He distinctly remembers at one point attending a Bible conference where the Gospel of salvation was preached from John 3:16. It was at this point that Bisalom understood the gospel and trusted Jesus for his salvation. This was in 2009 while he was 16 and in the eighth grade.
Since then, Bisalom’s desire to serve God has grown increasingly, a desire fueled by God’s faithfulness in his life. After completing high school, he became hesitant, resisting God’s calling upon his life. Not long after, he became convinced of God’s for him to go into pastoral ministry. Upon this conviction, Bisalom sought a school that would help equip him for ministry.
In God’s providence, Bisalom was introduced to AIU by a Gospelink preacher. Bisalom considers it a huge blessing, a great privilege, and an answer to his prayer that he is at AIU.
“I am grateful to God for this opportunity. I am learning a lot at AIU, and am especially happy to learn the interpretation and application of the Scriptures in context. I am also excited to learn many skills through my work scholarship at AIU. To God be the glory.”
Being at AIU has impacted Bisalom both physically, socially, mentally, and spiritually.
Bisalom is grateful to God for allowing him to be the first in his family to ever attend college, and he looks forward to being used by God as a preacher of the Word. At his home church, Bisalom has been gaining practical ministry experience serving alongside his senior pastor in discipleship and evangelism programs. He wants to see this ministry grow and expand into the rural areas beyond his own hometown.
Bisalom is thankful to God for all the sponsors who have made his stay at AIU possible. As a prayer request, he desires that the Lord will continue to transform him as he learns new things. Pray with him for God’s courage and provision as he pursues his calling and to finish his studies well.
