The ministires of Harvest Hope Home
HARVEST HOPE HOME - Children Care
Harvest Hope Home, situated on the shore of Lake Malawi at Nkhota-khota and initiated in 2012, offers a labor of love and rescue to destitute children. Many ministies in Malawi are reach out to meet the needs of vulnerable and fatherless children, though the goals and means of these ministries vary greatly from a feeding center only to a school and housing facilitiy overseen by “nannies.” Gospelink’s approach has been a new paradigm for Malawi.
Each orphan accepted and residing at Harvest Hope Home is placed in a family with both a father and a mother. Each home houses eight to twelve children. The intent is to provide emotional support and spiritual training under God’s original design of two parents. The needs of a child’s soul are equally as important as the needs for food and clothing and family discipleship was God’s original design.
The parents living at Harvest Hope Home are godly, national people, understanding the culture, the language, and the nees of the children who come to live under their jurisdiction. Food is grown locally and in the homes’ private cardens, but the financial support provided through Gospelink enables balanced nutrition for each child as well as quality bedding, cothing, and medical attention.
In 2023 we also saw the opportunty to work in partnership with our sister minstry the Mzuzu Crisis Nursery with the placement of at orphan that did not have a family to go to.
PROVISION -
Each child at harvest Hope Home is part of a family with other siblings and a mother and father. Each household raises a certain portion of their own vegetables for food while the Gospelink farm is raisng goats, chickens, and rabbits - all for consumption and income. Staple foods in Malawi are maize flour and rice, but sponsorships enable Gospelink to ensure that Harvest Hope Home can provide adequate protein and vegetables for the children. Over 1,000 lbs. of corn four is consumed at Harvest Hope Home every month.
EDUCATION -
For the first three years of Harvest Hope Home the children attended the closest public school (over 1 mile walking distance). Some of the classrooms contained over 100 pupils. In 2015, we began our own private Christian school. In this new school there are no more than 30 pupils per classroom. Over 100 students attend Harvest Hope Home Primary school and the Harvest Hope Home orphans make up more than half of the student body. We are expecting to be more of a witness to the surrounding communities as facility and means make provitions for such development. Sponsorships are a key in supporting this essential side of education for these children.
Spiritual life -
The great commission involves discipleship as well as evangelism. God’s first setting ofr discipleship was the home. These children are taught the Word of God every day both at the school and at home. We are seeing marked changes as they learn to obey the Word of God. In recent years we have also established the Harvest Hope Church. This local church ministers to the children and staff and to local families.
MALAWI AGRICULTURAL TRAINING CENTER
The Malawi Training Center is located on 1,000 acres on Lake Malawi. The center provides both agricultural and spiritual training for the region and also produces food to combat hunger. There are many challenges with farming in this place of the world with periods of extreme draught as well as periods of heavy rains. Your prayers are needed as well as support to allow the center to be effective.
HARVEST HOPE SCHOOLS
Harvest Hope School on Lake Malawi was started to provide a quality education for children from the Harvest Hope Home but also educates children from the predominantly-Muslim communities. Harvest Hope Home School began in 2015 with the purpose of quality Christian education for not only the children from Harvest Hope Home but also to the surrounding community. Again through sponsorship support, teachers are hired, classrooms are supplied, and the number of pupils are limited to ensure a helathy learning atmosphere. In 2022 the New Approach Tehnical School was started with the completion of the buildings required and teachers and staff hired. We are now able to go beyond the government mandate of academics and include practical training that our HHH children can immediately use to provide for their livelihood. More grades will be added as funding and feasibility allows.
