August 2025 AIU Newsletter
Equipping Africa’s next generation of spiritual leaders
Welcome Back!
Students return to campus for the final term of 2025.
After a well-deserved three-week break, our students resumed classes with energy and excitement on August 18. We thank God for His protection and for granting each student safe travel back to campus.
During the short break, many students spent valuable time with their families, while others participated in ministry opportunities within their communities, continuing to serve and share the gospel. We are encouraged by their commitment to living out their faith both inside and outside the university setting.
This third and final term of the academic year is always a significant one. It marks not only the completion of another year but also the culmination of many students’ journeys at AIU. One of the most anticipated events of this term is the 2025 Graduation Ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on November 1. It will be a special day to celebrate the accomplishments and spiritual growth of our graduating class as they are sent out to serve in various capacities.
We are incredibly grateful for our local professors, who continue to invest wholeheartedly in our students. These faithful men not only provide academic instruction but also mentor and disciple students with biblical truth and wisdom. Their dedication to shaping the next generation of Christian leaders is at the heart of what we do here at AIU.
As we begin this important term, we invite you to pray with us that our students will stay focused, healthy, and spiritually alert throughout the term. Also, please pray for continued strength, health, and provision for our faculty, and pray for the upcoming graduation preparations, that the event would honor God and celebrate His faithfulness.
The photo above captures our first student assembly of term three, held in Carey Chapel. It was a joyful time of worship, encouragement, and challenge, reminding students to finish strong, not only in their academics but also in their walk with Christ.
As we move forward, we do so with hearts full of gratitude, believing that God will continue to guide and bless the work happening at AIU. Thank you for striving with us through your prayers, support, and encouragement!
From campus to Community
Gospel hope overflows from AIU to the surrounding villages.
Our outreach program through the SENT teams at AIU continues to be a powerful expression of our commitment to the Great Commission. This initiative engages both students and staff in actively sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with surrounding villages, local churches, markets, and public schools. Beyond evangelism, our SENT program also incorporates intentional discipleship to help new believers grow in their faith.
Over the past few years, we have witnessed incredible growth and impact. One of the most exciting developments has been the increasing openness in public schools and village churches, where there is a growing hunger for the Word of God. During the week, AIU students visit local schools to minister to the pupils, teach biblical truth, and offer encouragement. On weekends, they are joined by staff to continue this mission in nearby villages and churches, reaching people of all ages with the message of hope in Christ.
Transportation plays a crucial role in reaching these various locations. While students often rely on bicycles to get to nearby churches and public schools, some new ministry sites are much farther away. In these cases, a university truck is made available to help them reach more distant communities effectively. Despite logistical challenges, the teams remain dedicated to the ministry, faithfully pressing on and trusting God for strength, provision, and lasting impact.
We give thanks to God for the many doors he continues to open for ministry. These opportunities are both humbling and exciting, as we see firsthand the impact of the gospel in people’s lives and across entire communities.
“It has been such a joy and privilege to be part of the outreach ministry at Emmaus Baptist Church. As I engage with the congregation and teach them from Scripture, I have seen God move in powerful ways. Some people have decided to follow Christ, and many others are beginning to understand the Bible more deeply. This experience has not only allowed me to serve others, but it has also strengthened my own faith.”
Please pray for our SENT teams, that they would serve with courage, compassion, and clarity as they share the love of Christ. We are encouraged by stories like Emmanuel’s that remind us of the importance of this work. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
Staff housing Update
Construction has been completed on a new staff house in Compound 5.
Staff housing continues to be a significant challenge at AIU. However, we are grateful that God is opening doors and answering our prayers in this area. We have recently completed a new staff house in Compound 5, which includes a student bathhouse on one side and a staff residence on the other.
This development is a great blessing for our staff. It directly addresses the housing shortage by providing a comfortable home for another staff family on campus. The new house features a living room, a master bedroom with a private bathroom and walk-in closet, two additional bedrooms, a second bathroom, and a spacious kitchen.
As the number of staff and their families continue to grow at AIU, we are truly thankful for this provision of a three-bedroom home. This project involved expanding an existing structure and has now been completed successfully. Thanks to the dedication of our construction team, the house is fully furnished and ready for occupancy.
Thank you for contributing to this project, in prayer and funding! Please continue to pray with us as we seek further support to build more staff housing in the near future, as this is an urgent need.
More than Medicine
The mission of Chifundo Clinic runs deeper than just addressing physical needs.
The Chifundo Clinic has continued to make a lasting impact on the AIU campus and the surrounding villages. Originally founded in response to a serious lack of medical services in the area, the clinic now stands as a vital hub for both physical care and spiritual support. Before it opened, those needing medical attention had to travel at least 10 kilometers (6 miles) to reach the nearest health facility, a challenge that was particularly difficult for pregnant women and families with urgent health needs.
Now, the Chifundo Clinic has become one of the most trusted and respected healthcare centers in the district. On any given day, the clinic serves more than forty patients, offering not only medical treatment but also emotional support and the life-giving message of the gospel. Its presence has significantly improved access to healthcare for the AIU community and beyond.
“Before Chifundo Clinic, getting medical help was incredibly hard. Today, that is no longer the case. I have received excellent care, and I am grateful that my family has somewhere safe to go, even at night. I pray God continues to bless the team here.”
Beyond treating patients at the clinic facility, Chifundo also works closely with AIU’s outreach department to take healthcare and the gospel directly into nearby communities. Through the clinic’s outreach efforts, the medical team provides basic services, health education, and spiritual care to people on their own doorsteps. As a result, thousands of lives have been touched, and many have come to faith in Christ.
The continued success of the Chifundo Clinic is made possible through the faithful support of Gospelink, the Zambian government, and generous donors whose contributions help sustain its operations. We are so thankful for this ongoing support!
We give all glory to God for what he is doing through this ministry. Please keep the Chifundo Clinic in your prayers, that God would continue to provide for our ongoing needs, bless our dedicated medical staff, and use this work to continue reaching people with both healing and hope.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT
GEORGE SAKALA
Electricity & Water Department Assistant
In July, George Sakala — a 2017 AIU graduate — joined the staff at AIU as an assistant for the Electricity and Water Department on campus. His routine involves managing and leading work scholarship students every day, maintaining the water and electricity supply, and attending to any related emergencies in the community. We all benefit from the work George does on campus!
George desires to help those who lack the financial means to attend school, especially those in rural areas, and to help them know God and his love for them. He looks forward to seeing God use him more as he discovers God’s calling and plan for his life. Please pray that George would continue to put God first in all he does and that through him many people would come to know the Lord and his love.
“I consider it an honor, privilege, and opportunity to serve the Lord wholeheartedly by supporting our students and the AIU community. I am grateful for the chance to serve others and to grow professionally through learning new things. I enjoy providing the needed services to the AIU community and trusting the Lord throughout the process.”
STudent SPOTLIGHT
FAVOUR MUSONDA
Sophomore
Favour Musonda is a 2025 Sophomore at AIU. He comes from Zanimuone West in Lusaka, which is the capital city of Zambia.
While growing up in his hometown, Favour attended church regularly as a routine, where he repeatedly heard the gospel. In 2012, he realized that simply being born into a Christian home was not enough for his salvation. Instead, he needed to decide for himself to follow Christ in order to have a true relationship with God. After hearing the whole gospel message that year, Favour placed his faith in Jesus Christ.
Favour desires to know more about God and continue to grow. He considers this opportunity to study at AIU a huge blessing and an answer to his prayers.
“My time at AIU has been incredibly valuable. The courses I have taken have helped me discover the truth I was searching for. I now feel equipped and confident to share this truth boldly as I serve God.”
Once he graduates, Favour has plans to become a church planter — evangelizing rural areas, teaching the gospel, and creating content focused on spreading the message of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Favour is so thankful to everyone who has poured into his life already. He also looks forward to seeing God use him and grow his ministry. Please pray that Favour would be diligent and drawn nearer to God in his studies.
