Training Africa’s Next Generation of Spiritual Leaders

Second Term of 2023 is in Session!

Since our two-week break from March 24th through April 8th the AIU students are all on campus, refreshed and encouraged!

Most of our educators this second term are guest teachers from the USA, as well as a few from right here in Zambia. As this current term runs through July, we are so grateful for our teachers. Through their personal sacrifice of time and resources, the Lord is pouring out His life-changing truth and wisdom to young students who will themselves make an impact for Him across Africa!

Everyone at AIU serves a unique role among and within this Christ-centered community. Every student, each faculty member and support staff employee have a unique story to tell. As we celebrate each member of the AIU family, below are a few member we wish to spotlight this month.

Meet Our Staff -

Kebby Jones Lungu

Supervisor of the Vehicle Maintenance Department

Kebby, affectionately known as “Mr. Jones” both in his hometown of Chongwe as well as on campus, has served with us since 2010. Starting out on a part-time basis, his servant’s heart combined with extensive experience working with motor vehicles soon found him joining our staff full time. Mr. Jones has served in his current supervisor role since October 2021, ensuring that our fleet of campus vehicles are of highest working order. He is also tasked with making budget proposals for his department and supervising students whose work scholarship is under the AIU vehicle maintenance department.

When asked to explain his thoughts about working at AIU, Mr. Jones explains, “I have always considered it a blessing for me to serve here. I am excited that I could be part of this great cause of God through AIU training Africa’s next generation of spiritual leaders. I find delight and pleasure in what I do daily. My job gives me a platform to learn new things every day and the ability to develop skills in overcoming challenges”. On the job, Mr. Jones has gained and perfected many skills pertaining to motor vehicle maintenance including the safe and effective use of many tools, while also teaching others, including AIU students who work alongside him.

Mr. Jones is motivated to glorify God in his work and is grateful to be in a workplace surrounded by other believers who help him daily in his spiritual walk with the Lord. Please pray for Mr. Jones in his desire to be led by God in all he does at AIU, while increasing in his capacity to serve others. Also, pray for God’s continued provision for him and his family, and for wisdom in raising his children in the fear of the Lord.

Meet Our Lecturer

Dr. Kenneth Yates and Kathryn Wright

Dr. Kenneth Yates obtained his Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) in 2014. He has since then been the pastor of Little River Baptist Church. His daughter, Kathryn, is a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary where she obtained her master’s degree in Christian Studies. They have served together on short term mission trips as a father-daughter team to many places including Zambia, the Philippines, South Korea, and Kenya, teaching at Bible conferences and theological schools, and training church leaders.

Both Dr. Kenneth and his daughter, Kathryn have faithfully taught at AIU each year since 2017, where Dr. Kenneth teaches the book of Romans and Kathryn teaches the Progress of Redemption. For 2023, Dr. Kenneth taught the juniors while Kathryn taught the freshmen. Dr. Kenneth notes that “our teaching experience this year was so wonderful, and my daughter and I look forward to returning to teach here at AIU every year”. Says Kathryn, “My Dad and I are so excited and glad that we could be back again to teach here at AIU. I have especially enjoyed teaching and interacting with the fifteen young men in my class who love the Lord and His Word”. In addition to serving at AIU, both Dr. Kenneth and Kathryn work with a Christian organization known as Grace Evangelical Society (GES) in Columbia, South Carolina. With a focus on promoting the sound, pure, and clear preaching of God’s Word, this ministry has allowed them both to share the gospel among a broad audience through online blogs, YouTube videos, radio podcasts, courses via Zoom, published books, and Bible conferences.

We are so thankful for their faithful service at AIU, as our students have benefited greatly from their teaching. Pray for Dr. Kenneth and for Kathryn for God’s continued provision in their lives and for opportunities to be used by Him to impact many more lives through sound teaching.

Student Spot Light

Freza Elijah Musoka

Freshman

Freza is a 2023 freshman at AIU, and comes to us from Kabwe, a town in Central Zambia. The firstborn of six (three brothers and two sisters), Freza was raised in an outwardly religious home. Though claiming to be Christian, he had no true understanding of God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ, even as his father was a pastor at their church. As a young child Freza reluctantly attended church with his parents and siblings, though he felt a division between himself and the Christian tradition of his parents. As he grew, he found himself questioning his worldview and lifestyle until, when he was in the sixth grade in 2013 a friend invited him to church service where he heard the pastor preach the message of salvation. From the reading of the gospel of John in this sermon, Freza understood what it meant to trust in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Once saved, Freza began to feel God’s calling for him to preach the gospel and bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Encountering difficulties in understanding the Scripture in his desire to learn the word of God in depth, Freza realized how important it would be for him to attend a Bible school. In God’s providence, Freza was introduced by an alumnus to AIU where he is now being equipped to serve the Lord with his life.

In the few months that Freza has now been attending AIU, he feels greatly encouraged to be here. He is especially grateful to learn how to understand God’s Word as he experiences the impacts of this in his life personally and as he prepares sermons. He also enjoys fellowship with other believers, further reinforcing his spiritual walk. In addition, Freza is thankful to learn other skills including the use of computers as he works in the scholarship department of AIU. In his own words, “AIU is a peaceful and suitable environment for me to study God’s Word and I am grateful for that. The people on campus are charitable, loving, and welcoming to me”. Freza looks forward to the equipping he will receive at AIU. Following graduation, he desires to be used greatly to share the gospel in his hometown and wherever God would send him while at the same time pursuing a career in medicine. Pray for Freza for God’s continued protection over him and that he would finish his studies well. Pray with him also that God would guide him in his desire to pursue a medical career after graduating from AIU.

Thank you for your prayers and participation with us as we seek daily our Lord’s direction in preparing Africa’s next generation of Christian leaders at Ambassador International University!
