International Students and Study Permits
International Students and the Need for Support for Study Permit Cost
Ambassador International University has remained committed to fulfilling the great commission by training spiritual leaders with biblical truth. So far, it has received and trained students from Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. For the 2024 enrollment, the university, by God's grace, has received some applications from Togo. This means that we have another country added to our demography.
Now, for international students to study at Ambassador International University, they are required by the law of Zambia to cover their study permit. However, most of the students that the university trains share a common problem, which is the lack of finances to cover the cost of study permits. Most of the students come from poor backgrounds where parents could at least cover their primary school level but cannot cover their university costs. The scholarship program that the university offers allows students to study without worrying about the cost of learning. However, it does not cover the study permit cost.
So far, we have about 7 international students for the 2024 first-year class. The following testimonial from Jose Aleixo gives an overview of his financial condition, which made him pursue the school’s work scholarship program:
"I am requesting the work scholarship because I am financially unstable to study at the university. My father passed away, and my mother does not work. My mother has six children, and she cannot afford to study at the university." Jose Aleixo (Mozambique)
Apart from the students’ poor background, one of the challenges that international students face in Zambia concerning their study permits is the change in the cost of study permits by the government. It is not predictable what the cost will be in the next years. Sometimes the cost is higher than expected.
Because of the reasons raised above, international students are in great need of support both financially and spiritually through prayer for them to study successfully at Ambassador International University.
The needed funding for study permits is $3,000.
