Mzuzu Crisis Nursery & Family Centre
Ministering to Malawi’s Most Vulnerable
What is the Mzuzu Crisis Nursery & Family Centre?
While our focus of the Mzuzu Crisis Nursery and Family Centre has always been to care for orphaned babies, we are now expanding our efforts to support older abandoned children as well. In many of the villages we serve, poverty leads to heartbreaking situations where children are left to fend for themselves. These children often survive by begging and scavenging for food.
Why we are taking on this project
Recently, we learned about two boys who had been abandoned for months. They were living with a woman in the community, but her own poverty made it impossible for her to provide them with adequate nourishment. The boys were starving and in desperate need of help.
Our dedicated social worker, Bertha N’goma, has tirelessly worked to find loving homes for the babies at our nursery. She navigates the challenges posed by difficult government workers with unwavering empathy and determination. Bertha advocates for the children’s needs, ensuring they receive the support they deserve. Her work is about more than just placements; she truly loves these babies.
Upon hearing about the two boys, it was determined that the best place for the boys was at the Crisis Nursery while Social Welfare continued to look for their family. Our hope is to find a loving home through adoption in Malawi or internationally.
Meet the newest additions to the Centre. Before they came, these boys were unloved, hungry, and hopeless. Today, thanks to Bertha’s efforts, the boys have been enrolled in school and are flourishing. They are happy, filled with hope, and starting to build a brighter future.
We need to build a small house for older children currently residing in the nursery and those to come. As our caregivers focus on the babies, the children need a dedicated space where they can thrive, grow, and play.
Would you consider donating to help us construct a new building on the property? Your contribution would make a significant difference, providing these children with a nurturing environment and the attention they deserve.
