Who is Harvest hope home
Harvest Hope Home (HHH) lies within the Nkhota-khota Region along the shore of Lake Malawi where it’s reported there are approximately 20,000 vulnerable children in this region. HHH has six cottages which each house a married couple who serve as a mother and father to the children. Currently, over 60 children are living and growing at HHH.
The cottage homes for the children have been paid for by donations from people in the USA. Harvest Hope Home is supported in part by the farm. The monthly consumption of maize is half a ton a month. From the perspective of the last harvest, our children are not hungry. Each home raises a certain portion of its vegetables. The farm is raising goats, chickens, and rabbits - all for consumption and commercial revenue.
Why we are taking on this project
For the first three years of HHH, the children attended the closest public school. This was over one mile walking distance and some of the classrooms contained over 100 students. In 2015 we began our own private Christian school. In this new school, there are no more than 30 pupils per classroom. More than half of the children attending are from the surrounding villages and communities.
Now Gospelink is seeking to establish a high school. The school will be named New Approach Technical School because we plan to go beyond the government mandate of academics and include practical training that our HHH children can immediately use to provide for their livelihood.
What we are seeking to raise
- $154,000 in one-time gifts for the construction of the school building, staff building, and toilets
- $1,200 in monthly sponsorships to hire six teachers (to be raised later)
